BUENOS AIRES- October 4th.
Pilará-Piaget advance to final of first Triple Crown tournament. Scoring a 13-12 win over La Dolfina, the 37-goal team of Agustin Merlos, Santiago Chavanne, Sebastian Merlos and Piaget Manufacture “ambassador” Marcos Heguy had once again represented the 135 year-old Piaget tradition of teamwork and excellence that began in the Swiss village of La-Côte-aux-Fées in 1874.
Continuing a partnership with polo that developed over thirty years ago, Piaget has successfully returned to the world capital of polo with its co-sponsorship of its victorious Pilará Piaget polo team in the second round of the first of the game’s Triple Crown events, the Tortugas Open in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Game 2 : Pilarà Piaget versus La Dolfina
Pilará Piaget, earned a place in the final of Argentina’s opening Triple Crown tournament Sunday (October 4th) by defeating La Dolfina 13-12 in the Tortugas Open Championship at Tortugas Country Club outside Buenos Aires. The Piaget team’s hard-fought win means they will meet the reigning champions, Ellerstina Etiqueta Negra, in the Tortugas Open final next Saturday.
Piaget ambassador Marcos Heguy, a 42-year old 10-goal veteran, led his 37-goal team to victory against 40-goal La Dolfina, skippered by 10-goaler Adolfo Cambiaso, in a match that saw Pilará Piaget leading in all but one of seven chukkas. Heguy scored four of his team’s points including the winning goal in the last chukka.
La Dolfina’s Lolo Castagnola opened the scoring in the first period, but two penalty conversions by Agustin Merlos of Pilará Piaget put them in the lead.
The Piaget team increased its lead to 4-3 in the second chukka. Merlos was sent off after a technical foul late in the third period, with 7-goaler Lucas James substituting, and a 30-yard penalty conversion by Cambiaso gave La Dolfina a 7-5 lead at chukka’s end.
Pilará Piaget regained the lead and were 8-7 up in the fourth chukka, 9-8 in the fifth and 12-11 in the sixth. Marcos Heguy increased his team’s advantage to 13-11 early in the last period and with La Dolfina scoring only once, Pilará Piaget won the match 13-12.
